Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has received a lot of attention in the fitness industry and in those with a need for weight management. CLA is an omega-6 fatty acid that is a mixture of a series of linoleic acids. Protheragen Nutraceuticals is committed to providing customers with quality CLA supplements to help you achieve your desired results in weight management.

Benefits for Weight Management

Increase metabolic rate and reduce body fat

CLA accelerates energy metabolism and lipids reduces the accumulation of body fat. The effects of CLA on fat loss are especially prevalent in overweight people. Studies have shown that consuming CLA reduces body fat mass (BFM) in overweight and moderately obese individuals. [1] Not only that, but a study also analyzed the role of CLA in healthy exercise, including healthy participants with normal BMI and weight. The results confirmed that CLA was not only effective in reducing body fat in overweight people, but also in healthy exercisers. [2]

Prevent muscle loss and enhance muscle growth

Supplementing CLA before and after fitness can accelerate fat loss and promote muscle growth. Studies have shown that when animals are given a homologue of CLA, an increase in voluntary activity, a decrease in body fat, and an increase in muscle size can be observed. In addition, CLA has also been reported to prevent age-related muscle loss in aged rodents. [3]

Improve exercise effect

Ingestion of CLA activates beta-oxidation and results in a reduction in body fat in rodents. An animal study showed that CLA can improve endurance and fat oxidation during exercise. Compared with the control group, the swimming endurance of CLA-fed mice was significantly improved, as shown in the figure below. [4]

Precautions

  • The recommended dose of CLA supplements is generally 3.4-6.8 grams per day.
  • Possible side effects of an overdose of CLA may include upset stomach, constipation, diarrhea, and indigestion.
  • There is currently a lack of further research on the possible side effects of CLA in humans.
  • It's never too much of a stretch to take your doctor's advice before taking CLA supplements.

Support the immune system

Consuming CLA can help boost your immune system, such as preventing you from catching those common colds. The beneficial effects of CLA on immune and inflammatory responses have been reported in many animal models (and human clinical trials), such as reducing colonic inflammation, reducing antigen-induced cytokine production by immune cells, reducing the adverse effects of immune challenge.
